Inns in Vigan
Vigan’s Calle Crisologo is the main attraction for
visitors who are lured by the charm of the bygone
Spanish period that can still be experienced through the
city’s surviving heritage architecture. It is therefore
no surprise that the most sought after accommodations
are those along or nearest Calle Crisologo. However,
they also command higher prices.
For visitors who want to limit their budgetary allotment
for accommodation and spend more on sightseeing
and
shopping, the Cordillera Inn is a good alternative. This
inn is right along Calle Crisologo. Its rooms are
clean
and simple, plus a night’s stay comes with a Filipino
breakfast of longganisa (local sausage), tapa (fried
marinated beef) or daing (fried marinated fish). The
rooms also have cable television and hot and cold water.
One may choose from air-conditioned or fan-cooled ones
that can accommodate up to four people.
Visitors are made to feel welcome by the experienced
staff eager to assist and impart local information to
tourists. The Cordillera Inn has its own restaurant and
a function room as well.
The other inns are located a bit farther from Calle
Crisologo. However, Gordion Inn is just a short walk
away
from the famed street. The inn’s architecture stays
true to the Vigan-style, spacious and airy with its high
ceilings. Its rooms are furnished with four-post beds
and antique-style furniture and decors to complete the
19th century feel.
Guests can enjoy a filling breakfast with their booked
room. They have a choice of Filipino or Continental
breakfast, complete with fresh fruit juice and European
sausage.
Granpa’s Inn can be found after a short walk from Plaza
Burgos. It is at the corner of Bonifacio Street and
Qurino Boulevard. The inn’s interior is fully decorated
with antiques and paintings, almost like a lived-in
museum. It has its own restaurant where guests can take
their free breakfast. Travelers who have driven to Vigan
will not have to worry about parking in Granpa’s Inn.
Also a few houses away from Plaza Burgos is the La
Feliza Tourist Inn. This is for the no-fuss traveler who
just needs a budget-friendly place to stay. Its main
advantage is that given the rate it offers, it is
strategically located.
Another alternative is a stay at the Socio Pastoral
Center adjacent to the Archbishop Palace across the
Saint Paul Cathedral. They have airconditioned and
fan-cooled rooms, common toilet and bath, a souvenir
shop and parking area.
Farther away is the UNP Guestel , which mainly caters to
the foreign students and guests of the University of
Northern Philippines. It is a great place to stay for
vacationing students, with its open café that offer
local and international cuisine and its proximity to
recreation and shopping areas. |
