Restaurants Vigan
Café Leona is indeed the most known eating place in Vigan mainly
because of its association with the
poetess Leona Florentino, after
whom the place is named.
For visitors who would like to have a full Vigan gustatory
experience, they can try the food offerings of restaurants in the
hotels and inns of the city.
The Cool Spot Restaurant in Vigan Hotel is a good place to start
Vigan food-tasting.
The 500-seat restaurant offers grilled prime
meat and seafood dishes aside from Vigan cuisine.
It serves
breakfast, lunch and dinner daily so one can keep coming back for
more of its Kilawen,
Pork Bagbagi and Sisig.
Granpa’s Inn along Bonifacio Street has the perfect place for those
looking for cozy dining.
Its Uno Grille and Café Uno both have a
romantic ambience. Diners can choose to dine surrounded by a garden
in Uno Grille or softly lighted in the cool interiors of Cafe Uno
complete with background music.
They serve pastries and pasta, but diners are enjoined to try the
local dishes --- Dinengdeng and
Poqui-Poqui. Those who have
experienced dining here swear by the white tea paired with chocolate
pan cake, and the buko pandan and sans rival. These are a must-try
for snacks or desserts.
How about a place for good food and a massage? A visit to the La
Mirada is perfect after all the touring around. Located at A. Reyes
Street, it is just a couple of blocks away from Plaza Burgos.
The
place does not only serve meals and ice cream treats, they also
offer different massages for a
complete pampering.
But you don’t always have to dine fancy to have a great food trip in
Vigan. It’s really best to try the places where the locals frequent.
The food stalls (carinderia or turo-turo) in Plaza Burgos and
Baluarte are a start. There you can educate yourself about local
cuisine by asking the friendly stall owners about the cooked food
laid before you from where you can choose your breakfast, lunch or
dinner.
There are many restaurants in Vigan where you can dine turo-turo
style as well. You can try Vigan food
at the Gaizel’s Restaurant
along Gen. Luna Street and the Arceli’s Breadhaus and Snack Inn at
Florentino Street. Other restaurants along Gen. Luna Street are
Vigan Tessie’s Restaurant and Hambre Bar and Restaurant.
For visitors who miss the taste of familiar food, there are also
international and local fast food branches in Vigan located just
around the plazas. Foreign tourists will be relieved by the sight of
the golden arches of McDonalds. But if they have not tried the food
in local fast food chains they might also want to experience eating
at Jollibee for their hamburgers, at Greenwich for their pizza, at
Chow King for their Chinese noodles and rice-toppings, and at Max’s
for the distinctly delicious fried chicken and their fresh spring
rolls . |
